J.D. Miller, Jr., OD Dr. J.D. Miller, Jr. received his education from Louisiana State University at Eunice with a major in pre-optometry (Dean's list and a founding member of the Zeta Alphi Phi fraternity)[undergraduate studies], completing his Bachelor of Science and his Doctor of Optometry at the University of Houston (graduated Cum Laude). He began practicing at his current location in June of 1983. He has received post-graduate training (100 hours) at LSU for further training in therapeutic optometry and as such is an Optometric Physician. He is an active member in the American Optometric Association (AOA)(including the Contact Lens and Cornea Section), the Optometric Association of Louisiana (OAL), the International Society of Advanced Orthokeratology (ISAOK) and a consulting staff member at the Acadian Medical Center in Eunice and a consulting staff member at Allen Parish Hospital in Kinder.
He also volunteers his time on a regular basis at the United Community Health Clinic, which is a charity clinic serving St. Landry, Acadia and Evangeline Parishes, and is the staff eye doctor at this clinic from 2003 to present. He is serving a 5 year term on the Louisiana Board of Optometry Examiners (beginning Sept. 2006).
His numerous activities in the community include, not only his optometric activities here in Eunice, but also membership in the Eunice Kiwanis Club. He is a retired rooster in the Eunice Jaycees and a current member of Eunice Chamber of Commerce, as well as, an active member of the Eunice Mardi Gras Association.
Specialty areas of practice include: 1. glaucoma treatment and management 2. dry eye treatment 3. complex contact lens evaluation and treatment 4. post operative care of cataract patients 5. pre and post operative care of refractive surgery patients, including LASIK, CK, Hyperopic LASIK,PRK, and other procedures 6. treatment of red eye 7. removal of ocular foreign bodies 8. consultations with primary care physicians regarding diabetic eye disease and high-risk medications capable of ocular complications 9. Accelerated Corneal Therapy with Wavefront Corneal Molding 10. Macular degeneration management 11. Low Vison and Vision Rehabilitation
